Gulf & Basco was very honored to partner with Helping a Hero the past year to build a beautiful home for a local war hero, SGT Dan Cowart and his family.
Helping a Hero was founded in 2006 and provides support for military personnel severely injured in the War on Terror. Their goal is to provide specially adapted homes for qualifying service members through partnerships made with builders, developers, communities, and the veteran. Since 2006 Helping a Hero has awarded over 100 homes in 22 states and has plans for many more.

SGT Dan Cowart is an Army war hero that was seriously injured on duty. On May 13, 2007 while performing vehicle searches SGT Dan experienced a suicide bomber’s blast and lost his left leg, suffered nerve damage to his right leg and lost hearing in both ears. Dan is now forced to spend the majority of his time in a wheelchair but is determined to walk again with the help of a prosthetic. His goal is to be able to walk his now 12-year-old twin girls down the aisle for their wedding one day.
For SGT Dan, Helping a Hero designed a 4 bedroom, 3 bath home that is all wheel chair accessible. Meaning there are wider doors, wider hallways, a roll in shower, lower countertops, roll under sinks, an adapted toilet area and more. By making the home wheel chair accessible Help a Hero was able to provide SGT Dan with more independence in his home. Gulf & Basco was proud to provide the cabinets and countertops in the home.
All the cabinets in the home are Legacy Cabinets. The door style is Manchester and has a raised panel. The wood type is Maple and the color of the cabinets is Ash.
The countertops are all Silestones Copper Mist. The edges are Straight Beveled, meaning the edge maintains the surface thickness and appears square with a slanted top edge.
